My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Hope Sugar, and I'm here to sprinkle a little sweetness into your life. Imagine a cuddly, calm, and utterly charming little lady—that’s me! I’m perfectly comfortable and laid back at home, embodying the essence of a sweet, serene companion. The humans think I am a lab/pittie mix, but with rescue it’s always a bit of a mystery! I’m a little over one year old and beyond ready to find my forever home.

Affection? I’m all about it! I show my love through kisses, cuddles, and the occasional excited climb onto your lap to say hello. In the car, I'm a well-behaved passenger, though I need a little help getting in and out. As for walks, I'm not the biggest fan of the leash and cherish my freedom, but I manage just fine when I need to be on one. Speaking of freedom, I do need supervision while outside because I am quite the escape artist when it comes to fences.

Playtime is my favorite, especially with my big foster brother, a 105-pound Bernedoodle! We love to roughhouse and race around our yard, enjoying every moment of our energetic games. I’m a quiet soul, generally, only joining in the barking when my foster brother gets things started.

I'm crate trained, though I'm a bit of a Houdini and can slide those latches open when I feel like it. Potty trained? Absolutely! While I might be a tad shy when I first encounter new places, give me a little time, and I warm right up, ready to explore with my tail wagging.

My ideal home could be anywhere from a house with a yard to an apartment or condo setup where regular walks and playtime are part of the routine. I thrive both on adventures and as a couch potato, making me the perfect versatile companion. Living with young children is a breeze for me; I currently share my space with a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old, understanding just how to be gentle and calm in their lively company.

Although I haven’t been formally trained in commands and am a bit nervous about trying to "sit," I am eager to learn and very food motivated—there’s a lot of potential for us to have fun with training! I've not been officially cat-tested, but I do tend to bark at the community cats I see from afar, so I would probably be happier in a home without cats.

Whether you have another dog or not, I’d be happy. I'm a social butterfly thanks to my foster brother who teaches me the ropes and helps me shed my initial shyness. Above all, I'm a fun-loving cuddle bug, happiest when I'm playing with toys, sprinting across the yard, or just chilling on the couch beside you.

I’m being fostered in Friendswood, TX and I can travel to the PNW, the East Coast, and Canada.

A note about adopting a dog from the Houston, TX area: Based on statistics, dogs from this area are one of the MOST desperate in the US. Euthanasia rates are incredibly high for both puppies and adult dogs. This precious baby is safe with us now, but there are so many more to save every single day. Our adopters truly save lives.

Why adopt from Three Little Pitties?

The stray and animal overpopulation in the Greater Houston area is the highest in the nation. Statistics show that there are over 1 million homeless animals in this region alone. Three Little Pitties Rescue is a nonprofit dog and cat rescue that partners with the community to make a difference. Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and saving all breeds of dogs and cats from the streets or animal shelters that oftentimes have no other option but to euthanize animals for space. This dog you’ve found online is lucky to be in our program, and even luckier to have you notice it!

Three Little Pitties wants to set you and your new pet up for success! We know our dogs and we work hard to prepare them socially for adoption. We are a network of dedicated people who are heavily invested in seeing our animals thrive. From the moment they are accepted into our program, our Intake, Behavior & Medical teams prepare them for adoption by properly vetting, behaviorally assessing, and providing customized plans depending on the dog’s needs. We provide weekly socialization programs for our dogs through playgroups and group leash training classes available to all dogs in our adoption program, and Doggy Sleepover, Doggy Day Out, and Ambassador programs for our boarding dogs. There is a professional dog trainer on staff to provide support for our fosters and dogs, and an off-site dog trainer for dogs that need more extensive behavior modification. This helps us learn deeply about every dog, prepare them for adoption, and ultimately match them with loving families. We seek to adopt to families who understand that these are rescue dogs and will require continued training efforts, but will be well on their way to being the best dogs that they can be!

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these special perks:

• A free private online dog training session with GoodPup plus low pricing for future sessions (approx $25 weekly for an 8 week course of one session per week)
• One free bonus toy in every BarkBox when signing up for their Super Chewer subscription plan
• 70% off of your first order of Fetch, a PNW based, organic fresh dog food loaf meal subscription plan
• Coupons for a fun visit to Petco
• Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary this year! Through the combined efforts of all of our hardworking staff and volunteers, we have placed over 12,000 very lucky dogs and cats into amazing homes! By adopting from us, you save TWO lives! The pet you adopt, and you create an opportunity for another animal to be saved in that spot. Together, we can be heroes.
