My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You know how lemon brightens up any dish? So does this little lady. Lemon Poppy (friends call her Poppy) is a spunky little girl. She's smaller than her siblings and learned quickly how to compensate for her stature: she uses her pipes! She tells her brothers exactly what she's thinking, and sometimes it sounds a little scary (especially when she has a toy in her mouth), but she's ALL bark and zero bite. She plays well with her brothers, other adult cats, and other adult dogs of varying sizes. She's had a great time when some tiny humans of varying ages came to play, and generally is pretty fearless when meeting new friends. We call her Hoppy Poppy because when she's awake, she's always hopping from one toy to the next--never still long enough for a picture unless she's asleep! You can pick her up, and the purrs immediately start, but she'll hop right out of your hands and on to the next toy to tackle or summit to climb.

Poppy loves to play with anyone and everyone… She would do well in a home with a very attentive and playful parent, but I think she'd do best with other critters who will play with her. OR even better--her brother Banana Nut!

Who We Are
2 Paws Up started in early 2007 as a small group helping to transport animals from the Harnett County Shelter to people who wanted to adopt but could not make it there themselves.

Since then, we have expanded our services to a full adoption agency. We vaccinate animals upon their arrival and get them any necessary health care, including spaying and neutering.

Any animal in our group will be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption. We cannot help the problem if animals keep mating!

We have recently been approved as a North Carolina Non-profit organization, and are waiting for our 501(c)3 paperwork to be finalized! Hooray!
Why We Are Different
As a future pet owner, you are probably looking for an adoption agency that is right for you. Each rescue group should have something that appeals to different groups of people, so everyone can find their future pet. This is why we think we are different:
• Our adoption fees vary between animals. We do not charge you for something we didn’t do. For example, if a dog came into the shelter already neutered, the cost of that neuter will NOT be included in his adoption fee.
• Our main focus is shelter pets. Most rescue groups focus on stray animals before they end up in the shelter. We try to help as many animals that are in imminent danger of being put down. We do accept animals from elsewhere as well, but high-kill shelters are our main focus.
