My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dear potential forever family,

Hi, I’m Rolo! I’m a male English Cocker Spaniel mix and about seven years old. I was rescued from East Valley Shelter where I was brought in as a stray with a really hurt and chaffed-looking nose. Luckily we’ve got it figured out now after having a biopsy and discovered I have what’s called Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) which is localized to my nose and very treatable. The doctors think my nose was in bad shape after having too much sun exposure. As a preventative measure whenever I go outside, my foster mum puts doggie SPF on my nose. I also have a hat and visor to help protect me from the sun. I love going on walks, but I’m not the dog for hiking or the beach since I shouldn’t be in the sun for prolonged periods. In addition to SPF, I have a prescription for prednisone (a very affordable medication) that I’ll likely always be on. We are working with the Vet to find the most nominal amount tolerated which keeps my DLE at bay and I must admit my nose is looking pretty amazing! I’m very active and my foster parents swear I’m younger than seven-years-old based on my energy levels. We’ve been working on basic training so that I don’t jump as much which can be hard for me because I have a bubbly personality and love to be by my persons’ side at all times. After a recent vet visit though where we did X-rays, it showed I have a prolapsed disc (also called a slipped disc) so bouncing around like I love to do isn’t the best for my back. It’s better if I’m not jumping up and down on things, so no going on the bed or couch unless I’m using stairs or a ramp. I may require gabapentin (another affordable medication) from time-to-time if I have a flare, and it should be noted the prednisone helps my back issue too so win-win there. Luckily I am a really smart pup and am picking up on all my learning skills with zest! Even though I have a few health issues, they are very manageable and I am overall in good heath! I’ve had a recent blood panel as well as a dental when I was neutered, and of course am fully vaccinated and microchipped. I will thrive in a cozy environment with a parent who loves cuddles, is consistent and can provide guidance, and who wants a sweet yet playful companion. If you’re looking for the ultimate best buddy, then I’m the spaniel for you!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We are so delighted you’re considering adopting one of our buddies as your lifelong companion!! It is our mission to rehabilitate each animal before they are placed for adoption, which makes for a smoother transition process between you and your new buddy. Your furry friend will be vaccinated, spayed/neutered, micro chipped, and socialized. Our intention is for both you and Fido to thrive and we will make every effort to support this special bond.

STEP 1:

Once you’ve found your PAWmate, please be sure to fill out our online application, located at: http://www.beoplesbuddies.org/#!adoption-application/c1g7e. We will contact you right away to get started with the adoption process and to arrange a meet and greet with your prospective buddy.

STEP 2:

Now you’re ready for a home visit! It is our goal to ensure your home is safe and free of hazards, such as harmful chemicals, exposed wires or cords, balconies, and doggie doors or fences that allow for the great escape. Don’t worry, if we find any potential hazards, we will help you with buddy-proofing!

STEP 3:

Now it’s time to sign our Adoption Agreement and collect the adoption fee.

ADOPTION FEES

Your adoption fee helps cover the costs for your buddy’s vaccinations, medical appointments, spaying/neutering, microchip, and training.

Dog Buddies $300 - $350

Puppy Buddies $350 - $400

Cat/Kitty Buddies $150 - $200

POST ADOPTION:

Now, you’re ready to begin the adventure of a lifetime with your new BFF! Please keep in mind that no matter how much your buddy has been rehabilitated before arriving to your home, there will always be a transition period. A lot of rescue animals have encountered difficult circumstances, such as neglect, unstable home environments, stressful conditions, or even past abuse. Think of how you might react to a new home environment in such a situation. Set your expectations accordingly and be prepared for the bonding process to be just that, a process. We promise it will be worth it!!
Thank you for becoming one of Beople’s People and joining our Buddy Brigade! We will continue to provide support by following up with you after 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We do hope you’ll be an active Buddy Alumni and continue to check in with us and drop by often!

Our buddies thank you for your interest and hope to see you PAWfully soon!
