My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.

❌Nico has become urgent again. He needs a foster or adopter where is the ONLY PET! If a foster or adopter is not found soon, we are going to have to make a hard decision that we don’t want to make‼️ This isn’t to guilt people, but it’s reality. Dogs who have no “issues” are taking months and months to get adopted, nevermind a dog that needs to be the only pet. These homes are very, very hard to come by.

Nico is an absolute sweetheart. He is not shy at all. He knows the command sit and has caught on quickly to the routine in the house.
He loves to sit in your lap and give lots of kisses. He seems to be mostly house trained, he’s only had a couple accidents in his foster home. We believe he is an English Lab mix, he’s shorter than an American Lab but he is solid! He weighs about 40-50lbs. About 3 years old. Medium to high energy level. He loves to run and play and also be a couch potato. He definitely would love to have a place he can run and get some energy out! He walks well on a leash. He is very affectionate with humans!

Nico is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter,  up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.

More about this rescue

Adopt-A-Stray was founded in Jan. 2010, by Kelley Prichard. Since then, it has grown to include a few wonderful volunteers who work very hard to help ensure that our pets are place in loving, forever homes. We are based in Alexander, AR, but we list all of our available pets in the northeast. We work with several different transporters to get our babies to their new homes in the northeast once they are adopted. The transporter we use most often Pack Leaders (www.plrdogtransport.com). All pets are given age appropriate vaccinations before they leave. Every pet is seen by our vet prior to transport. If you see a pet listed that interests you, please be sure to read the description thoroughly and inquire to the email address listed. Thank you for considering a rescue dog!
