My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am by appointment only, please e-mail adoptions@okhumane.org if you wish to set up a meeting with me!
Meet Copernicus, affectionately known as Coop, a resilient and determined little dog with a unique spirit. Coop comes from a hoarding case and is on a journey of recovery, which requires patience and understanding. He's food-motivated, particularly loving freeze-dried liver, and is slowly discovering the joys of toys, with a particular fondness for a plush raccoon almost as long as he is. Despite his endearing qualities, Coop is undersocialized and struggles with handling, harnesses, and leashes. His foster parent has observed his cleverness and determination to avoid wearing anything, sometimes finding him in surprising places. Coop is working on this and would love a home to continue his training and socalizing! Coop enjoys moderate play and is generally calm, but he has a lot to learn about living in a home.

Given his background, Coop's ideal adopter would be someone that can provide him a calm and comforting space that has no young children. He's crate-trained but not yet house-trained, using potty pads with mixed success. Coop's anxiety and fear of new people require a gentle and slow approach, with patience in earning his trust. He prefers the company of other dogs as he does not do well with feline friends, and would likely benefit from a dog companion to ease his anxiety. Coop can be talkative when showing emotion, so a home that can read his signals would be best. Coop, once comfortable with his people, is just another pup wanting a safe and loving space. If you have the experience and are willing to give Coop the time and space he needs, you'll find a determined and uniquely charming companion ready to become a part of your family.

Additional adoption info

Adoption Process
We have an open adoption policy, so there is no application or interview process. We simply ask that you meet the pet in person before adoption. We have adoption specialists that will help you find the right pet for your family.

Adoption Center
The Adoption Center is located at 7500 N. Western Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Our Adoption Center is a totally new concept in Oklahoma City where dogs have comfortable, expanded kennels and cats stay in “living rooms” with furniture and toys.

Pets by Appointment
Some amazing dogs get stressed out in a kennel environment like our Adoption Center, and much prefer staying at their foster home until they find their new family. If you see a dog on our website that says “E-Mail to Meet Me” that means that this furry friend is just a click away from getting a ride to the Adoption Center to meet you in person.

Adoption Fees
Adult dogs are $150 to adopt, puppies are $200 to adopt, adult cats are $75 to adopt and kittens are $95 to adopt. All of our pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, treated with all age-appropriate vaccinations and flea, tick, and heartworm preventative prior to being cleared for adoption, so we put a lot of effort and monetary investment into each of our animals including a two-week quarantine period in a foster home. These adoption fees help cover the costs of our animals’ health and well-being!
