Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Me and my mom Molly are the new seniors in town. Molly has lived with me her entire life and we are the best of friends. So Tails has decided we need to be adopted together. Suddenly we found ourselves without a home to call our own and we are hoping you can help change that. We are both wonderful dogs who would make ideal family pets. We grew up with children, are house-trained, and know some commands. We are a friendly, happy pair and, though we still have plenty of get-up-and-go, are generally quite calm. Even though I am the bigger of the two of us, I am still protected by my mom with other dogs. We know it might be really hard to find a home together so any help you can offer, if you cannot adopt us yourself, would be awesome! Please come meet us. Each of us will melt your heart. Promise!

Here’s what to expect when you arrive at TAILS:

A staff member will ask you what sort of pet you are looking for and then will provide you with information about specific pets that appear to be a good fit for your family, taking into consideration such factors as: kids, level of activity, your pet experience, other animals currently in the home, etc. You will be encouraged to interact with the pet or pets of your choice in a private visiting room. We believe that bringing a new pet into your home is an important decision so you’ll have plenty of time to make your decision without feeling rushed. Staff and volunteers will be available throughout this time to answer any questions you may have. Once you’ve made your choice, an adoption counselor will review the adoption contract with you.

You’ll pay the adoption fee. Then you’ll take your new family member home with you!

An animal can be put on hold in person at the TAILS facility during regular adoption hours.

Our mission: Saving the lives of companion animals through rescue, adoption and spay/neuter; advocating for pets in our region.

TAILS Humane Society is a limited admission animal shelter providing a safe haven for almost 2,400 animals each year. We are committed to providing each animal the time and medical care they need to have their best chance at adoption.

TAILS was established in 1999 by a group of local animal advocates dedicated to bringing a comprehensive animal shelter to DeKalb. We operated out of an old farmhouse until 2005 when we cut the ribbon on our Barber Greene facility. In 2009, we opened our low cost Spay/Neuter Clinic providing quality, affordable sterilization services to the public. We continue to grow and strengthen our programs and service as we continue to save lives.
