Rudy von Rietberg is a stunning, 11-12 month-old, black-and-red German Shepherd. Besides being utterly handsome, this fluffy-coated boy has a cheerful personality that will win you over at first meeting. Treat-motivated and wanting to please make Rudy an A+ student for learning new things. He already knows how to sit on command and offer his paw, and he is learning how to heel on leash. He walks well in a pack with 6 other dogs and looks forward to romping with his furry friends in our playard, but he's a no-go for cats. Come to meet Rudy soon and shake hands/paws with him!

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
