My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Caviar came to AAC at the end of April as a stray pup who was spotted and taken in with a group of other dogs. When he was found, he had a left paw wound but we’re happy to share that it has since healed and he has been adapting well to AAC. Next stop - Forever Home!

Caviar is a wiggly friend who will like pets all over his body once his human friends get to know him! He’s treat motivated, too, which means that when it comes to learning basic commands with you at home, we believe he will respond well! He’s eager to earn a tasty treat and is smart so he can catch on quickly.

Specifically, we have been impressed with his adaptability with other pups. He currently has a doggy roommate at AAC and in the playgroup he is seen to be a bit shy at first, but then his zoomies come out & his playfulness takes over. He has the potential to live in a household with other dogs and will ensure compatibility with a doggy meet and greet at AAC. We think he’d do best with a chill, laid back dog who is looking for a playful young guy like Caviar to break him out of his shell.

Looking for an affectionate pup who has been through a lot? Caviar is deserving of the world. We know when you meet him that you will fall in love with this wiggly goofy guy!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
