So stinking cute! Meet Roux, a 6-month-old, terrier/labrador retriever mix. How can you not love that adorable face accented by wavy ears and dark brown eyes. He weighs about 22 pounds and is expected to be in the medium size range (20-50 pounds) when fully grown. He has a short tricolor coat.
Terrier mixes are known to be smart, loving, and confident. They can be very active and like to run around to burn off energy. Labs are known for their intelligence, friendliness, and adaptability. Add to that the traits of playfulness and good-naturedness and you have an appealing mix.
Roux has no problem running and playing with other dogs, be they large or small with his high puppy energy to get him through any play session. He adores attention and does well with has companions or playmates. It is not known if he has ever met a cat.
He will need an owner who can provide continued training so he can become a master at his house, crate and leash training. Using the right guidance with consistency, repetition, and patience will help him with the skills he needs to master. Cheerful praise and lots of treats will go a long way in helping him master those skills.
Like most puppies, Roux will probably be a quick learner once routines are established. Before he can begin to spend time in a crate, he will need to have an established bathroom routine (always after eating, playing, sleeping, and before bedtime). He will also need plenty of exercise and lots of attention. He loves toys.
With an established bathroom routine, lots of attention and exercise, Roux will be ready to be introduced to his new crate which must be a cozy, warm, and positive place. In the beginning he will explore it and use it for short periods of time. Eventually, the time can be increased based on his comfortableness with this second home. He may be able to handle up to 4 hours over time.
Daily short walks (under thirty minutes) will be a good opportunity to work on leash skills as well as socialization skills. It will be a new world to him with all the new sights, smells, sounds, and people along his walk. Please note: He may not be a running companion until at least age one when his growth plate closes.
Are you willing to commit to the time and energy needed to raise this friendly pup so that he can reach his full potential? If yes, read on.
