My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 15 weeks

Size: 15 lbs

Estimated breed: Retriever/Shepherd mix

Marvel was found as a stray in South Carolina all by herself. Her fur was completely gone, her skin inflamed and covered in old and new scabs and open sores. How does a puppy this young get such a severe case of mange? It's likely she never received any proper care from the day she was born, and only knew pain and suffering for the first few weeks of life. Fortunately her life turned around the day she was picked up as a stray and taken to the shelter, where she finally began receiving appropriate medical care. She is on the road to recovery and we are so excited to see her flourish and grow!

Marvel is around 15 weeks old and weighs 15 lbs. It's hard to say her breed since she's about 85% hairless at the moment, but she's got a curly tail, a slim face, and what looks like a black stripe of fur down the middle of her reddish/tan back. For now, we are saying she's a retriever/shepherd mix, but we can't know for sure! What we do know is that Marvel is a super sweet, low-key puppy who despite her humble beginnings, is full of happiness and love. She is currently receiving twice-weekly medicated baths and daily oral antibiotics to help her skin heal. She sleeps through the night in her crate and doesn't soil where she sleeps. She's still getting the hang of going potty outside, but she does always use the potty pad inside. Meeting new dogs, especially bigger than her, can be intimidating, but she warms up to them pretty quickly, especially when they are gentle with her. She absolutely adores people and just wants to be in your arms and covering your face with kisses any chance she gets!

Additional adoption info

Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from Nirvana Animal Rescue! Our adoption process is in place to ensure we find you the perfect match. The process includes the following steps:

Submission of online application.

Volunteer review of your application, including a background check on all adults living in the home, checking personal references, contacting your landlord if you rent, and contacting your veterinarian if you have current pets.

Phone interview with a volunteer to discuss the answers on your online application, share more information about Nirvana Animal Rescue, and answer any questions you have.

Virtual home visit with a volunteer to review your home and yard and ensure it is a safe environment for a dog.

If your application passes the above steps, the final step is arranging a time for your entire family, including resident dogs, to meet the dog you’d like to adopt! We require that everyone in the family meet the new dog before fully approving the adoption.
