Chester would like for you to review his resume before meeting him.

Education: He’s learned a lot from his previous home, including litter box manners (he has high expectations for a clean box!) and how to play nicely with small dogs.

Work Experience: waiting for his humans to arrive home and being attentive to their needs. He is adept at cuddling on the bed, window watching (monitoring the neighborhood), accepting kisses on the head, making sure that cardboard boxes do not go unused, indulging in catnip and silvervine.

Skills: chasing and playing with toys for long periods of time, watching cat TV to stay up to date on the latest news, wearing a cat shirt when he gets anxious.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
