My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Characteristics - friendly, sweet, playful, lazy, affectionate

Meet Opie
Opie was found outside with no background information, but he clearly came from a home as his little tuxedo shows no signs of wear and tear. He’s estimated to be between 1 and 2, and he definitely still has that puppy cuteness to him, despite his huskier size. He loves nothing more than cuddles, back and belly scratches, and affection. His favorite activity is somersaults in the yard and then waiting on his back for someone to come and rub his tummy. This guy will thrive in a yard that he can make his own and with soft grass for him to roll in and the occasional sprint. Opie also loves filled Kongs and exciting dog toys. He’s been a great houseguest and knows which toys are his, and which are the kids. Opie also loves going right up to kids and adults alike and giving them a nice side body push for some love returned.

Opie is working on simple skills such as “come” and “sit” and has almost mastered both. He’s very close on “down.” He’s eager to learn and is motivated by treats, and working with a clicker thru positive reinforcement. Opie has also quickly learned to respond to his name and is silly, but smart.

Opie is in a home with kids (9 and 6 years old) and is the most happy when they come home from school. He loves to greet them at the door and roll around with them in the yard, give tons of kisses, and go on walks with them. Occasionally on walks he enjoys just laying, army crawling, and observing, but once the kids call him, he’s up and at it again. He’s still learning how to best walk with his leash, but has made improvements. The smallest things bring Opie joy on walks; leaves, sticks, and soft grass. The rain and thunder were no bother to Opie, as he was more concerned about the kids’ reaction to thunder and making them feel okay. Opie is affectionate and wants his humans to be happy. Opie also gets some fomo when he sees other dogs. He did great meeting a 100-pound Rottweiler; super playful and was actually sad when she left. The funniest is when he tries to jump up for the birds and squirrels.

Opie has a beautiful, soft coat that appears not to shed much, and soft sweet paws. He’s comfortable with people touching his paws, ears, and anywhere and everywhere he can get a good scratch. His teeth are bright and look well cared for; Opie has no issue with us grabbing the occasional stick out of there. He is not too keen on jumping up into beds or into the car, so he needs someone able to pick him up or get little doggy stairs/ramp. Once he’s in the car though, he is cool and calm and loves a good car ride. If he’s not quietly looking out the window, he’s curled up in his seat napping.

Opie’s forever home would be great with a family or someone who works from home and would love to share their time with a great companion. He’s crate trained but prefers to be out and around people. He is a true sweetie, loves all people, and will make a great addition to so many homes. His foster family will be sad to see him go, but are excited for him to find his forever!

The adoption fee for Opie is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.
