Meet Mufasa, a 120 pound Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mix who is around four years old.
Mufasa has paws the size of the lion he is named after, you have to see him in person to believe how big he is! We don't know much about Mufasa before he came to us but we do know he came in with an embedded collar leaving a gnarly wound on his neck. We don't believe life has been too kind to Mufasa based on his injury and demeanor. He isn't very sure of people and often standoffish, especially when you first meet him. You can win over this giant with some treats, a gentle approach and soft words. He needs someone who will go slow with him and a quieter home is probably best. Mufasa walks well on a leash and is looking for a home with some understanding to lay his massive head.

The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Our mission is to help you find a pet that meets your expectations and lifestyle. You’re invited to visit with a prospective pet in one of our "Meet N' Greet" rooms. We also offer "Meet N' Greets" for adopters wishing to introduce a current dog to a potential new playmate.

We do our best to keep adoption prices reasonable while generating income to support our goal of caring for animals available for adoption until we can place them in a loving home. Adoption fees help provide medical care, food and shelter to the animals in our care.

We are a private, nonprofit animal welfare organization proud to be serving the people and animals of Yakima County for over 100 years.
