My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Truffle is an extra special boy that is a miracle to be alive. His momma was rescued from a puppy mill only a week before he was born. At just 3 weeks old, he started having seizures. At 4 weeks old he was rushed to the emergency vet and put on medication to stop them. At 5 weeks old, he was given an mri and spinal tap to see what may be causing the seizures. It was then, that we discovered that his brain was shaped abnormally and there was some fluid in a pocket on the inside of his brain. We also discovered that his spinal fluid contained abnormal cells, but they couldn't figure out why. No infection seemed to be present. We were told that it could be his oddly shaped brain causing the seizures, or he could just have juvenile epilepsy. Either way... whatever lies ahead for this boy is unknown. He could live a full and happy life, or his issues could get worse. He currently is not having seizures while on meds for them. Fast forward 8 weeks... and Truffle appears to be a happy, fun, smart, and silly puppy. He's playful, cuddly, funny, and full of spunk. He's pretty close to fully crate trained and he's doing great with house training. He's picking up on sit quite quickly and that he must be quiet to leave his crate. Truffle barely makes a peep, and when he does... it's just as cute as can be. His only pesky trait is that he is super mouthy, he thinks feet are toys, and struggles to settle sometimes. Whether this is just his personality or part of his not quite right brain, we are unsure. He is taking cues very well from other dogs. With lots of with training and positive reinforcement, he seems to be doing better with the mouthiness with humans as well. He absolutely loves other dogs, and it would be great for him to have another dog in his home that is okay with his style of play but will correct him as needed. Small kids may not appreciate his rough and tough play style, though somehow he seems to understand he needs to be more gentle with them. Truffle takes anti-seizure meds every 8 hours and these can not be skipped. Anyone adopting him will need to have the type of schedule and dedication to make sure he gets what he needs to keep the seizures away. It is possible that he may still have seizures even on the meds in the future and that medications may need to be adjusted or changed if he stops responding well to the Keppra. There are a lot of unknowns for this sweet boy. What we do know is that he is completely amazing and loved by many. As of right now, he has a great quality of life, and it is important to us that he finds his perfect family. We will continue to train and monitor him for now until the right adopter can be found.
If you think that may be you, you may apply at www.pawpatroldayton.com/adopt. Truffle's adoption fee is $360, and he will be partially vaccinated, neutered, dewormed, and microchipped before adoption. We believe he is a Poodle mix that may be mixed with Golden Retriever and his mom weighs around 20 pounds. His birthday is February 7th, 2024. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.
