My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Edgar recently made his way to PA from the urgent list at a rural county shelter. And my oh my, what a love mush! Edgar is a big guy at 90 lb and 3ish years old. It’s possible there’s some great dane in the mix. He is very dog and kid friendly though not the biggest fan of the felines.

Edgar is quickly settling into his foster home. He has a good appetite, he’s crate and house trained, and he walks decently well on leash! He is so sweet and loving and his tail never stops wagging. He will happily curl up on a blanket or dog bed at night and sleep the night away. He really has nice house manners and we suspect he was someone’s cherished pet at some point.

One thing we’ve noticed is Edgar likes to rest his chin on the table and watch his people eat. He doesn’t try to sneak any snacks and, in his defense, he stands at the height of the table so that’s just where his head is! Of course his foster family will work on this with him, but he’s just so cute with his puppy dog eyes when he does it.

Edgar will be available for adoption soon and we are accepting applications now! Email almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com if you like big dogs and you cannot lie and would be interested in adding this lovey to your family.

(Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php . We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
