Update from the pbotographer: Jim Beam This guy represents everything I love about shelter animals in one dense package. He has the stature of a medium sized dog but somehow weighs 51lbs. We can't quite figure out how or where he packed on the extra pounds but we love him just the same. When I met this fella, he was off in the field snuggling Shelley Bicksler, and when I plopped down beside him he melted into my lap. I was supposed to be off taking more photos but I couldn't help but sit here and hold him. I think we both got what we needed in those moments. This boy appears to be dog friendly, and was found running stray with another dog. However, he is also overwhelmed by the shelter setting. He appears to be a sensitive boy but he is so gentle.
Jim Beam is a recent arrival at TAPS and he's an all around good dog. While he appears to be medium in stature, he does weigh in at a hefty 51 pounds. He has previously lived with other dogs so is thought to be dog friendly and he did well with cats in a controlled environment here at the shelter. He needs some continued work on leash manners but gets the most excited approaching and leaving the shelter so outside of the shelter environment, he'll likely be better. He does know the basic command of sit. He ended up in the shelter system when he was picked up as a stray and his family did not reclaim him.
Leash Manners: good will pull when sees other dogs, that needs work but good away from the other dogs outside Basic Commands: if you say good boy he sits. Cat introduction in a controlled environment: very good he looked at them wagged happily and moved to the other group Good with dogs? seems to be. Eligible for dog intros Special Notes nice happy med sized dog (51 pounds).
Adoption Fee: $ 100 Estimated Date of Birth: Unknown Intake Reason: Transfer from Tazewell County Animal Control Animal will be spayed and up to date on vaccines, and microchipped prior to adoption. If their kennel card on display at TAPS shelter facility is marked as unaltered, the animal will be altered prior to being released for adoption. Animal stage may change from time to time based on surgery and medical status. TAPS strives to keep kennel cards as up to date as possible with current information but from time to time, information may change and a new kennel card may be pending. Full and current vaccination schedule and medical records along with any behavioral disclosures will be provided at time of adoption.

TAPS-Tazewell Animal Protective Society was founded in 1958 in Pekin Illinois in a building donated by the City of Pekin on River Road. In 1979, rapidly rising river water forced the evacuation of the animals. Once again, the City of Pekin stepped in and donated a building for the animals. Several moves later, and with the help and generosity of many volunteers and community members, TAPS now has a new home at 100 TAPS Lane. Last year we celebrated 50 year of caring for the homeless animals of Central Illinois.
