My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dale, the life of the party. Dale is the definition of a social butterfly, effortlessly mingling with both canine friends and human friends. With his laid-back attitude and chill disposition he also makes the perfect dog to lay around with. Dale is a free spirit, who is always up for adventure, his curiosity leading him to explore every nook and cranny of his surroundings. When he finds a nice patch of grass, he takes full advantage of it by rubbing his body all on it. Despite his adventurous spirit, his good manners are a testament to his upbringing as he knows sit and paw. Treats and toys are his weakness, and he'll do just about anything to get a plush toy in his paws. In Dale's world, every moment is an opportunity for connection and joy, and his charming presence never fails to brighten the day of those around him.

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
