Chiquita and her friend Sampson (A738415) arrived together and may have lived a long time together. They seem to enjoy eachother`s company but also have their own indepedent spirits and personality. Chiquita is learning all about this new shelter environment and shows how smart she is by absorbing it all. She`s sweet, understated and accomodating. She`s so easy to walk and will never turn down a treat. We hope you will consider opening your home to a sweetie who hit a fork in the road of life. And if you would like an instant family her good friend Sampson may also be available. They are both advocated for by ClassicCaninesATX who are helping to make bridges out of shelters for displaced mature pets. Don`t delay when a shelter dog is waiting for your love and comfy home.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
