My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Balto, a 1-year-old, 100-pound German Shepherd mix whose ears will always keep you on your toes because you never quite know which direction they'll flop in next! This big boy is as friendly as can be and will endlessly charm you with his silliness, goofy attitude, and fun-loving energy! He's an intelligent young dog who knows "sit," "lay-down," "stay," "high-five," and takes food so gently, only accepting when told it's okay. Balto loves every season, switching effortlessly from leaping and digging through the snow to summer activities like kicking a ball around, running like crazy, and enjoying long wilderness walks!
Balto has a lot of energy and will require a family that can provide him with the proper enrichment and exercise. Once he's done with his playtime, Balto loves to cuddle and relax with his people. Balto's signature sigh as he winds down from his busy day will make you fall in love with him over and over again! Balto previously lived in a home with other dogs and cats but will require a meet and greet with your resident dog(s) to make sure they'll be the best of friends! Balto is neutered, microchipped, and available for foster to adopt until his vaccine appointment at The Babinski Foundation. You can visit Balto Tuesdays through Sundays from 8:30 to 5:00 PM!

More about this shelter

OUR MISSION

We strive to ensure a safe, healthy, and loving environment that will provide temporary shelter for abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals and to find each animal a new and prosperous home.
The Babinski Foundation is a private 501c3 animal shelter located in Pequot Lakes, MN. We are a safe place to surrender dogs and cats. We also are a stray drop-off facility for stray cats and dogs.

OUR STORY

The Babinski Foundation was established in 2010 by Donald and Elizabeth Babinski owners and founders of Babinski Properties which owns multifamily housing in Minnesota, Florida and South Dakota. He and his wife Elizabeth were working tirelessly to get the animal shelter opened which was their dream, but Donald Babinski passed away August 11th, 2014 before the shelter could open. Elizabeth continued where they left off and the Foundation opened in January 2016 in Pequot Lakes, MN. Elizabeth passed away on November 13th, 2020. Donald and Elizabeth’s dream was finally realized, and Donald and Elizabeth’s surviving family and friends will continue to work hard to fulfill their mission.
