My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Shrek, a gentle and loving sweetheart! This unique boy tries to play with every cat and dog he meets and is wonderful with kids. Shrek has been diagnosed with Methemoglobinemia, but this condition doesn't change the fact that he is beautiful and full of love.

Shrek's story began in an empty field outside a rural Texas town, where he was found alone and starving. Despite his tough start in life, Shrek was overjoyed when someone kind stopped to pick him up. He's been through so much but remains a playful puppy at heart.

Shrek is great with other dogs and does not have a mean bone in his body. He hasn't let anything slow him down and even did great during his neuter surgery. The veterinarians say he can live a long and happy life, and he deserves a loving home.

FEE INCLUDES: Adopting an adult dog (6 months or older) includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, deworming, flea & tick prevention, heartworm testing, and microchipping.

For dogs under 6 months, they receive age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick prevention, and microchipping. All dogs are spayed/neutered by 6 months, covered within the adoption fee. The procedure must be done at one of our partner clinics.

To begin the adoption process, please submit an application on our website: www.hbwi.org/adopt. Once approved, you'll have the opportunity to meet our available dogs. Following the meeting, you can initiate a 5-day Adoption Trial, allowing you to take the dog home. This trial period is designed to ensure the dog is a match for you and aligns with your lifestyle. After the 5-day trial, if all goes well, the adoption will be finalized. Additionally, we require a home visit once the dog is settled in its new home to ensure a smooth transition for both the dog and the adopter.

Go meet their pets

As a foster-based rescue organization, we do not have a central boarding facility for our animals. If you are interested in meeting one of our available animals, we highly encourage you to submit an adoption application. Once approved, you will be able to meet our animals.

More about this rescue

In 2024, Homeward Bound Animal Rescue of WI emerged from the compassionate efforts of two dedicated women, both seasoned veterans in the world of rescue.

Our mission is clear: to prevent animal cruelty and neglect through foster-based rescue and rehoming initiatives. We strive to support both animals and their owners by fostering a sense of community and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Together, we lend our hand in the name of rescue, ensuring every animal receives the love, care, and support they deserve.
