My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Buddy is a sweet 8-1/2 year old male Basset Hound/Shepherd mix who was brought to the HSOV on October 1, 2023 after he was found on State Route 821 in Washington County Ohio. Buddy was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped.

This older gentleman has a black-and-brown medium haired coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with hopeful innocent eyes, tan eyebrows, a black button nose, a dusting of white on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. Buddy has THE sweetest face you could ever imagine.

When we took first photos of Buddy on October 2, 2023 he had noticeable hair loss which was likely from a flea infestation/allergy. He had been examined by a local veterinarian earlier that day who diagnosed him with severe skin allergies and ear infections. Buddy was also diagnosed with a heart murmur and tested positive for Lyme disease. He has undergone treatment/medications and has also finished his Lyme disease antibiotics on November 1st.

What a difference 4-weeks made in Buddy's outlook on life and his physical appearance! These photos were taken on November 3, 2023 when HSOV Kennel Tech Cadince Bibbee spent time with Buddy for updated pictures. Buddy had a cute smile in most of his photos, and he had a lively bounce in his step as he pranced around in the fallen leaves. Buddy's hair is growing back though it is still a little sparse on his chest and tail .. But he looks 100% better outwardly than when we first met him and he is still the same sweet boy inside (where it really counts).

Buddy has gained a few pounds and weighed 46.6 lbs. on October 25, 2023. He walked well on a leash for Cadince (who admitted that she had fallen in love with Buddy).

Buddy went home with a foster family on November 8, 2023 who planned to adopt him, but he was returned on May 19, 2024 because they could no longer give Buddy the care that he needs. The family is rather active and Buddy needs to be taken outside more frequently than they can be there for him.

His foster family reported that Buddy is good with children, cats, and other dogs.

Buddy is being listed as a 'Special Needs' dog since he is partially deaf and blind. Because of his limited vision, he is frightened of loud noises.

We look forward to taking updated photos of this sweet boy Buddy.

UPDATE: Buddy went to a fabulous foster home on June 9, 2024 where he will be loved and cherished 24/7 while he waits for someone special to offer him a permanent home where he can spend his golden years continuing to be pampered to his heart's content. HSOV is accepting adoption applications for Buddy and can arrange a meet-and-greet if you are interested in adopting this sweet soul.
