My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name's Kristi. I'm so glad you decided to take a closer look at me. And, not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'll have to admit I can see why you would! I am a gorgeous gal, possibly an Alaskan Malamute, but I guess I'm smaller than they usually are so my folks think I'm probably a husky/malamute mix. They say my head and body-type are malamute anyway. That mean anything to you? Anyway, as you can see, I'm very photogenic. I'm also very personable. Okay, so I haven't been personable in all the best ways since dad got married, and that's why I need to move in with you. I overheard them saying I have dominance issues with mom and maybe some possessiveness about dad. I admit I haven't been totally polite, but I'm not a bad girl, just saucy and willing to test folks. Can't blame me for that, can you? Let's see, what else should I tell you... Oh, I have this really cute habit of getting totally excited and play bowing when you have a treat and tell me to lie down. Gets mom and dad every time! And, since you're bound to ask, I'm about six years old, terribly good about my housetraining but perfectly happy to spend time out in the yard too, up-to-date on my shots, already spayed (I think I remember something about that!), love to hear that we're going for a ride in the car, have a bunny friend I like to play with in the backyard (really!), and like to herd the cats at dad's folks' house (darn things won't let me catch them). I hope to meet you soon!

Woo woos and wags, Kristi

Kristi's Advocate Says: Well, now that you've heard from Kristi, here's a bit more info on this pretty gal. It may be hard to tell from the photos, but she basically looks like a malamute with short legs, not much else besides her muzzle to suggest husky or anything else mixed in her genetic makeup but as she was previously adopted through the humane society there is no way of knowing for sure. She has a wonderfully soft thick coat and such a cute expression in her brown eyes. She is past all the puppy stuff, though of course continued success with housetraining will require her new family and Kristi learning how to communicate in the new setting. She hasn't been crated because she isn't at all destructive in the house. Her preferred place to sleep is in bed with you. She also travels well; she has figured out how to operate a 3-point seat belt buckle to release her safety harness and gotten into the driver's lap on occasion. But the reward was a faceful of kisses! Since grandpa's cats have always kept out of her reach, we can't say with any certainty that she is cat-friendly, but the fact that she actually PLAYS with a bunny in her backyard suggests she is really just tryingto do the same with the cats. Happily, despite the ability to clear the sofa in one bound, she has shown no interest in jumping the fence in the yard. She enjoys playing with squeaky toys, proud to demonstrate to you when she's figured out how to make them talk. She is trained to "sit" and "lie down." She has a throaty woo woo voice you'll fall in love with as soon as you hear it.

Kristi will do best with someone accustomed to dealing with the temperament of a husky or malamute or other independent-minded breeds, and able to provide consistent, firm but loving reinforcement about her place in the family pack. Some additional training would probably help her learn to manage even her mischievous capablities and burn off some of her mental energies. She's a northern breed, so willing to test the rules, but given behaviorial reinforcement she should be an absolutely charming addition to your family. However, due to her strength and personality, even though she has been friendly enough with kids she's encountered, she would do best in a home without young children, including regular visitors like grandkids.

Kristi is a happy, healthy girl just waiting for a new family to love her. Won't you contact us about doing just that?

This dog's adoption donation is $200. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain! She has had a complete health exam, has already been spayed, is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites.
