My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bronte is a 7 year old black female with natural ears. She spent her first 7 years in a quiet home with a couple, loved and happy. When her first family fell on hard times, she was rehomed into a busy home with children. Bronte was unable to cope with all of the activity and the children in their new home, and snapped at the kids when they came close to her bed (which was in the middle of high traffic area). To avoid having Bronte put to sleep by her new owner, we pulled the girls to a kennel searching for a nice quiet home for them. We'll be dog testing further in the next week or so, as Bronte was fearful when she briefly met another dog on leash, shaking and barking at him. Her entire life has been turned upside down. She needs a home to call her own, where she can love and be loved.
Update 8/6/10 - Bronte is sweet and quietly affectionate, leaning heavily into the nearest human. She takes direction well and takes treats gently. Bronte tested well with another female dane with slow introductions. She was a bit too anxious at first, but soon calmed down once she figured out no harm would come to her. With slow introductions, she can be integrated with another dog. She's very good on leash and doesn't tug or pull, even when she was unsure about the other dog. She's a true gem of a find in a sturdy body with a big heart, waiting to love her forever home. Bronte lived with a cat for most of her life.
Update 9/4/10 - Bronte is in a temporary foster home but desperately needs a home to call her own. She is a beautiful glossy black 7 yr old girl who does no wrong, according to her foster home! She has soulful and speaking brown eyes, a wonderful disposition and perfect house manners. Younger children are a bit much for her but she'd be fine with older or quiet children. She would prefer to be with her sister or even smaller dogs or all by her herself. Bronte is excellent and very affectionate toward cats! She's smart and very attached to her people. She listens well, rides in the car like a dream, and needs a home to call hers. We would love to place Bronte and Aniya together in a forever home - won't you consider giving two deserving gals a place to call home? In the last few months, she's been pulled from her home, placed in a busy home with nowhere to retreat from the chaos, pulled from there into a kennel with her sister Aniya, and then separated from Aniya and placed in a short-term foster home. She's had it rough but she's still managed to maintain her wonderful sweet ways! Please consider Bronte if you have a home with medium to light activity, older kids, cats or small dogs. She will repay your decision with all of the love and affection she has, and will be a loyal companion and friend to you. How can you say no???
Update 9/16/10 - Bronte is a perfect lady. She walks well on a leash, no pulling. She does not counter surf, but if you leave food at her height (coffee table) she will help herself. She lets you know if she has to go out. At night if she has to go she will tap on your door to wake you. She has been very good with all animals smaller than her: dogs, cat, rabbits. With dogs her own size she needs some time to meet them and feel "safe". Bronte does not beg, and when you sit down to dinner you just tell her to go lie down and she leaves the room and goes to her bed to wait for you to finish and then of course she gets leftovers. She shows no food aggression toward people or animals. She eats on the same table with Tug. If there is only one bowl of water, she waits for him or for me to finish filling another. Bronte still is a little unsure of tile floors, especially when she is excited. When we go without a lead she does not wander, and if I walk away as soon as she is done with her business she is at the door. If I am not within her sight at the door she knocks and waits. Bronte LOVES the car. She has been fine with my grandchildren but she needs a place to go when she as had enough. She is very alert and lets you know if someone is at the house, yet she is not loud and constantly barking. She loves attention from her people but she is not a nag about it. I just cannot say enough about Bronte, when she came her head was always down and she lacked confidence and seemed very confused. But now she is a happy, confident sweetheart of a Dane.
