My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Carl ACCT-A-218340 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Carl must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, May 18th by 10:00 am. Should Carl’s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.

Carl is a handsome, sweet guy with an adorable spot over his eye that only adds to his charm. He’s incredibly affectionate, leaning in for pets and soaking up all the love he can get. Carl always comes back for more attention if you stop too soon!

He knows “sit” and is eager for treats, though he can be a little snatchy when he’s excited so an open palm is best while he learns to settle. Due to his snatchiness with treats, he is looking for a home that is either adult only or with kids 10+. Carl walks nicely on leash and when taken outside, he went to the bathroom right away, showing signs he’s working hard on staying house trained. Carl has had positive interactions with other dogs at the shelter and is even a playgroup rockstar. If you’re looking for a sweet, loving buddy with a wiggly spirit and a heart of gold, Carl is your guy!

On 4/25 per volunteer:
Kennel presentation: I purchased Carl’s ken and he was laying down on his and he slowly got up and sat nicely for when I opened the kennel door. I lasted with him over the head and I had no issues last him. He was pretty neutral with mid tail wags. After being lasso, he hopped right out of his kennel.

Leash: minimal/ moderate pulling

Handling: Carl is extremely sweet and very tolerant of all handling. He leans in and solicit pets. He knows sit but can be a bit snatchy with treats. In the room, he was very loose and wiggly with me and once I would stop petting him, he would come back for more pets. Outside he went to the bathroom right away so I would say he’s working on keeping himself housebroken. For the most part, he walks well on leash, but sometimes he does pull when he sees other dogs or something in the yard that might catch his attention. I tried to use toys to engage and play with him, but squeaky toy did scare him a little bit. He did chase the ball with me, but never picked it up. In the room when he was walking around, he was a bit whiny and he did stand by the door a few times.

Play: a little interested in play

Toys: a little interested but took no possession

On 4/23 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steerable, loose and wiggly, playful / social. Push/ pull play style. Gave corrections when mounted.

On 4/22 per staff: Super friendly and wiggly in kennel! Very social, loose body language, putting paws up on kennel door when I approached.

MEDICAL NOTES:

On 5/7: PCR test taken & came back negative for pneumovirus.

On 4/29 per exam: Carl has been observed to have shelter acquired upper respiratory infection (URI), or a "doggy cold". They have been started on medication, and will be monitored for resolution of the respiratory infection. PCR test taken & came back positive for pneumovirus. Placed into ISO.

On 4/22 per intake exam:
Eyes - clear, no d/c
Ears - clean
Nose - clear moist, no d/c
Mouth/Teeth/Gums - moist pink gums, minimal staining
Coat & Skin - clean, no fleas/flea dirt
Urogenital - male, intact both testicles present
Gait/Mobility - normal, no lameness
Attitude: BAR, friendly, very excitable and wiggly, not a fan of restraint but allowed with distractions
