My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Derrick: The Adorable Bird Dog Mix
Derrick, a charming 4-year-old little bird dog mix, is eagerly waiting for his forever home. Weighing in at a petite 30 pounds, Derrick's journey to finding a loving family began when he was rescued from a high-risk shelter by the compassionate team at Barking Mad Animal Rescue in August of 2023. 2 years is a long time for such a little fellow to stay in rescue.
Why Derrick is the Perfect Companion
Derrick is a remarkable dog with a heart full of love and enthusiasm for life. Here’s what makes him an ideal companion:
Health: Derrick is heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is in excellent health and ready to become a part of your family.
Personality: Known for his friendly demeanor, Derrick is incredibly people-friendly and gets along well with other dogs. His cleverness and eagerness to learn make him easy to train, and he’s already quite comfortable on a leash.
Temperament: Active and alert, Derrick is always ready for an adventure. Despite his energy, he is also affectionate and loves spending time with his human companions.

More about this rescue

BMAR is a No-Kill facility: a place of safety for healthy adoptable animals, a home for the homeless, a haven for the mistreated, neglected, or abused animals of Sabine & surrounding counties. BMAR also runs a sanctuary for those deemed unadoptible due to medical and behavior issues.

100% Volunteer Rescue. We have no animal control, Humane Society, or SPCA operating in our area leaving animals in dire straights.

BMAR is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty & abuse to all animals & livestock.

We currently only adopt to states and Canada where we have a network in place to monitor animals and help with problems.

BMAR backs it's dogs for life and will take back no matter how long and at any time if circumstance arise and you cannot keep your pet.
