If you have a calm, quiet household and are ready to welcome a sweet and mellow furry family member, Madeline (previously known as “Kitty”) is your girl!
Madeline loves a good nap on a soft blanket, lightly chirping when you reach out to give her chin scratches, preparing expert-level blanket biscuits, and chowing down on whatever food you’ll give her. She is not a fan of most toys, with the exception of a catnip mouse or pouch that she can hold and calmly inspect. While she has a cat tree available, she appears to be a “ground-dweller”; she typically chooses the lower portions of the tree or her blanket bed on the floor, but she does love a good scratching post.
Being around highly playful animals, animated humans, and loud or unidentifiable noises will scare her into a hiding spot, so we’d love to see her as either an only pet OR a companion for other like-minded animals who prefer to chill in quiet contemplation with their people.
When she does begin to trust someone, the signs are there: she will purr like a motor, rub her cheeks all over them, expose her belly, turn her back to them while eating, do some biiiiiiig stretches, and let out soft, crackled cries for attention. She does not like hands appearing over her head for any reason; that approach tends to make her retreat to a hiding place. Instead, she prefers touch over her neck and back, at the base of her tail, and under her chin (but only on her terms, of course).
She’s a little bit too excited about food and has some extra weight on her already, so free-feeding will not work in her case; she will need her adopter to portion her meals appropriately.
While she is initially reserved and very nervous in new situations, she hasn’t shown a mean bone in her body (if there even is one)—she is a sweetheart who just wants to be able to trust that nothing is going to harm her and find a place to call home that will give her that safety and allow her to finally relax.
