My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Lucille was brought in by by her previous owner on June 14, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Lucille, a young cat with a big personality and a mind of her own! New environments can throw her off at first, so she'll need a quiet spot to retreat to while she gets her bearings - but once she's comfy, she's full of curiosity and character. She's still mastering the art of proper play. Sometimes, she mistakes passing hands or wiggling toes for mysterious creatures that must be pounced on. With the right tools (toys), a clear map (boundaries), and a seasoned guide (that's you), she's learning how to play nicely. Lucille enjoys gentle affection, but only on her terms. She'll let you know when it's time for pets (and when it's time for a break). She'll do best with someone who's comfortable reading her cues and respecting her rhythm, as well as older, respectful children who can do the same. Give her time, understanding and a toy box full of options, and Lucille will bring a spark of fun and plenty of personality to your life! Don't forget a secure carrier for a safe ride home!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
