Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Come meet me and 100+ of my adoptable friends at Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue's MEGA adoption event, Home for the Holidays! Saturday, December 13th, 2025 at Paradise Island in Staten Island from 11am - 3pm!
Meet Barkley! This 2.5-year-old, 50-pound Labrador mix is a sweet, goofy guy who lives for attention, pets, and treats from his humans.
Barkley is super food-motivated and eager to learn, especially if there’s a treat involved. He shows more of his personality every day. He loves to have zoomies and play with his Kong or any squeaky toy nearby.
He’s doing well on a leash and loves going on long walks (or runs) around the neighborhood and exploring parks. Barkley has improved his dog-to-dog social skills and only seems to be intimidated by dogs bigger than him. He’s great with kids, but not so good with cats.
At home, Barkley is your own personal shadow. He’ll follow you from room to room, always wanting to be close. He’s housetrained and partially crate trained, and he’s happy to sleep in his crate all night. While he might be sad when you leave, he eagerly awaits your return—often greeting you by “talking” and telling you all about his day.
If you’re looking for a dog to spoil, Barkley’s your guy. He’ll be the most loyal companion and the best buddy you could ask for!
Barkley is currently being fostered in Jersey City, NJ. His adoption fee is $475.

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.
For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.
We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
