Meet Dona – A Gentle Soul Looking for Her Forever Home

Name: Dona

Age: 5 years

Gender: Female (spayed)

Breed: Shiba Inu & Jindo mix

Color: Light brown

Weight: 22.5kg

Height: 50cm (at the shoulder)

Rescue Story: Dona was first found wandering the streets in December 2021 without a leash or collar. She entered the city shelter, where she spent nearly 4 years before being rescued from the euthanasia list.

Personality & Temperament

Dona is thoughtful, gentle, and quietly affectionate. She can be a little reserved at first—she will happily take treats from your hand but prefers to be touched only after she feels safe with you. Once trust is built, she allows cuddles, even being lifted gently with arms under her belly.

She is not a fan of sudden loud noises, children’s screams, or fast movements, but she recovers quickly when removed from overwhelming situations. She rarely barks, except to happily “talk” when greeting her foster family.

Unlike some energetic breeds, Dona has a balanced, moderate energy level. She enjoys her outdoor walks (3 times a day), walks calmly without pulling, and afterward rests peacefully on her blanket.

Social Skills

With dogs: Dona is exceptionally social. She politely greets dogs of all sizes—big, small, or similar to her own. Even if another dog shows aggression, she simply avoids conflict.

With cats: She currently lives with 3 cats and does wonderfully. Even when the cats swat at her, she quietly accepts it without reacting.

With people: She is gentle but cautious, especially around sudden movements. Once bonded, she shows her love by wagging her tail softly and staying close.

Daily Life

House-trained: Only outdoors—never indoors.

Car rides: Calm in the kennel, hops in and out of the car on her own, no motion sickness.

Independence: She is not clingy and doesn’t demand constant attention. She enjoys relaxing quietly on her blanket rather than climbing onto beds or sofas.

Play: She dislikes squeaky toys but enjoys nosework games and puzzle toys.

Feeding: Never guards her food from humans or other dogs.

A Heart of Gold

Dona doesn’t always wear her heart on her sleeve—she’s not the type to follow you around all day or demand cuddles. Instead, she shows affection in her own gentle way: quietly standing by your side, leaning in for a soft pet, or wagging her tail with a shy smile.

Her foster family describes her as thoughtful and considerate—she often seems to “think first” before acting, making her appear cautious at times, but also deeply empathetic. With patience, encouragement, and kindness, Dona blossoms beautifully.

She may not be the loudest or most playful dog, but her charm lies in her quiet loyalty, gentle spirit, and the way she will faithfully walk beside you once she feels safe.

Like the football legend Maradona shined with encouragement from fans, Dona shines with love, smiles, and gentle praise. With just a little patience and reassurance, Dona will adapt and thrive wherever she goes.

Dona is looking for a forever family who will embrace her sensitive but loving heart. Could she be the one for you?

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
