PETEY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Petey Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd and basset hound mix
Best Guess for Age: 17 weeks as of 11/29/25 SEX: Male
Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 20.4 lbs as of 11/16/25
Gets Along With: Most puppies are in the prime of their socialization window and will do well with other dogs, cats and kids so long as they receive patience and proper training.
Currently Living at: DC area foster home
Special Adoption Considerations: Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.
Petey is Looking For: Hi! I'm Petey and I'm looking for a life where I get to play with other dogs and explore and get lots of cuddles. My mama Prim raised me to have good manners but learning is lifelong so I'd like to go to puppy school too. Most of all, though, I want to always know where I belong, to be safe and loved for all my days. In exchange, I promise to give you so many adoring gazes and tail wags and so much love and loyal companionship. What do you say? Do I get to grow up with you?
What My Foster Says About Me:There is something about Petey! At first, he will be shy, preferring the company of other dogs if present. However, with time and patience, Petey likes the human attention too – wanting pets, cuddles and butt scratches. He has figured out when food is getting prepped for him (hangs in the kitchen!) and loves his treats! Best way to Petey's heart!
We’re currently working on his “love language.” Right now, he expresses affection through playful puppy nips and bites, but he’s improving every day. Petey understands the command “outside” and, for the most part, does his business outdoors.
He absolutely loves his squeaky toys and anything he can gnaw on endlessly which is a big plus in curbing the little bites. Recently, he’s even started playing fetch and retrieving toys!
With his unique low gravity physique and big hound-like paws, everyone who meets him falls in love with this quirky little guy. It’s so easy to do!
Puppy Vetting Requirements: Lucky Puppies have had their age appropriate vaccines, but may not yet be “fully” vaccinated. It is the adopter’s responsibility to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, they are at greater risk for illness than an adult dog.
Due to this puppy’s young age, she/he has not yet been spayed or neutered. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than January 29, 2026. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and NO EXTENSIONS to this date. A non-refundable spay/neuter deposit will be collected if you would like Lucky Dog to pay for this animal to be spayed/neutered at one of our low cost partner vets.
Your new puppy will need to work on their house training and will also need to go to obedience school so they can grow into a well-socialized dog!
TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this puppy is $485, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online bit.ly/adoptaluckydog
