My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Damien and his companion Cordelia were found dumped with several other adult dogs appearing to all be related or from the same litter.

Damien is just about 35 lbs, and with his wirey, low-shedding coat, guesses for his breed range from terrier mix to a doodle of some variety. However, he very strongly resembles a German Wirehaired Pointer - just half the size!

Damien's biggest struggle currently is that he is just not comfortable around humans yet. He has never shown any aggression or red flag behaviors. He is just very very uncomfortable and unsure. However, it is clear that he WANTS to connect. When he spends time as office dog, although he starts out trembling, too nervous to accept treats, and eyes darting helplessly around, he does eventually calm enough to at least no longer panic.

He suprises us again and again by opting into close contact. He lays close beside the office chair or sticks right by your side during walks or even in our yards offleash. If you run in the opposite direction from him, he trots right behind you.

He will not lean into your touch, nor does he run from it. He tolerates what he does not understand. But when you stop petting and give him a break, he will push into your space for a few moments. It's clear that breakthrough is right around the corner, but a kennel environment is not the easiest place for that to occur.

Damien is in need of a rare and patient soul who has zero expectations for him other than allowing him to continue progressing at his own pace. If you think you're ready to take on Damien (or his assumed sister Cordelia), we'd love to hear from you. Contact adopt.ffaa@gmail.com or call the shelter at (417) 592-2512 to discuss details.

More about this shelter

Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, Inc is a non-profit organization committed to helping our community become a place where animals are treated with kindness and respect. Further, we want to be a voice for the welfare of animals in our community through various avenues.

We fulfill these goals by taking in homeless and vulnerable animals, rehabilitating, vetting, and preparing them for their future home, and ensuring that they are a good fit for those interested. Our goal is longevity - we are thorough when approving applications because we want their next home to be forever.

Our pledge to the animals under our charge knows no time limits. Our no-kill mission means that as long as it takes, we will keep searching for their perfect home. And if during that search, they need to rejoin our care, we welcome them with open arms no matter how long it has been.

People
From our paid staff to volunteers that support us at events and throughout the week, the dedicated and passionate community members that are involved in FFAA's mission are what keep us going. We always welcome new faces! If you are interested or know someone who would like to support our efforts, please contact us. We could not do it without our foster families, dog walkers, kennel cleaners, puppy and kitten socializers, event organizers, artists, chefs - everything we do is a group effort and thanks to the time and effort given freely and faithfully year after year.
