My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Tootsie was brought in by a community member on October 15, 2025

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Tootsie! This adorable young gal came to us as a stray, so we're still getting to know her. She has so much love to give and can't wait for the chance to become part of a family of her own! Tootsie is still learning that the world isn't such a big, scary place. She hasn't quite mastered walking on leash yet, so she'll need a private, enclosed space to use the bathroom while she's learning. A quiet home with patient adopters who can use positive reinforcement training will help her blossom into a confident, happy pup. Because she's still figuring things out, Tootsie can sometimes give mixed signals, so an adopter who can read her body language and go at her pace will be important. She'll need to go home with a collar and crate for safe transport. Are you ready to open your heart to this sweet girl? Come meet Tootsie today!

At SDHS:
Tootsie has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Tootsie is now ready for her new home!

Shy/Fearful Dog: Tootsie requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about her.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
