Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Tanner — a dog so sweet he could probably qualify as a dessert. Think “honey-drizzled, fresh-baked-cookie” sweet. Tanner’s sweetness is the stuff of legend — the kind that could melt the Grinch’s heart or make even the most “I’m not a dog person” person start Googling “best chew toys.” He’s loving in that full-body, no-holds-barred way that makes you wonder if he’s actually part golden retriever, part emotional support marshmallow. Want to sit quietly and drink your coffee? Perfect, he’ll join you — right on top of your foot, or even better yet...your lap!
Meet Tanner — a 5-month-old, 16-pound “double doodle.” (And no, I have no idea what that means either. Somewhere out there, a secret council of doodle breeders must be making up new names faster than we can Google them.) What we do know is that Tanner is pure gold — well, Goldendoodle gold — with a heart so gentle it could make a cactus feel soft. Tanner hasn’t had the easiest start. Most of his young life was spent behind bars because his owner was always working, watching the world go by from the wrong side of a kennel door. So, while he’s as sweet as butter melting on a pancake, he’s still learning what it means to actually be a dog — one who gets cuddles instead of confinement, love instead of loneliness, and the glorious discovery that dinner doesn’t come with a lock on the door. He’s looking for a family who’ll help him keep learning how wonderful the world really is — patient humans who understand that trust takes time, but that the payoff is worth every second. Because once Tanner decides you’re his person, you’re in for the best kind of forever: one filled with gentle love, quiet devotion, and just a hint of doodle mystery.
When it comes to meeting new dogs, Tanner is… well, let’s just say he’s still figuring out how to dog. He’s that kid at the birthday party standing in the corner with his juice box, not quite sure why everyone else is screaming over cake. But once he realizes they are not going to hurt him, he does just fine with them. As for cats? Oh, Tanner adores them. He thinks they’re weird, fascinating little buddies who must clearly want to play tag. Whether the cats agree with this or not remains up for debate, but Tanner’s enthusiasm is pure and completely harmless. He’s basically that kid trying to befriend everyone on the playground, blissfully unaware that some classmates have sharp opinions (and sharper claws). Kids? We don’t have any official data there yet, but given his shy nature, he’s probably more of a “kids are loud and unpredictable — I’ll be over here, thanks” type until he gets comfortable. When meeting new people, Tanner transforms into the canine version of a polite introvert at a networking event — friendly but reserved, offering a quiet sniff and a soft tail wag as if to say, “I’m happy you’re here, but please don’t make eye contact for too long.” Once he decides you’re safe, though, you’ll earn a level of loyalty that only comes from a dog who’s learning what love, trust, and comfort really mean.
Tanner operates at about a 6 out of 10 on the energy scale — which means he’s ready for adventure… but only if adventure involves being carried like royalty or chauffeured to his destination. Car rides? He loves them — as long as he’s physically attached to you in some way. Forget personal space; he’s your emotional support doodle now. As for his lifestyle preferences, Tanner’s motto is “where you go, I go.” Grocery run? He’s in. Quick trip to the coffee shop? Count him in (as long as he’s carried). He loves being out and about but firmly believes walking is optional — why use his legs when humans have arms? He’s not lazy, he’s just mastered the art of efficiency. His favorite hobbies include napping like it’s his job, doing happy zoomies when he feels safe, and sticking to his person like Velcro. He’s not one for wild parties or fetch marathons — he’s more of a “let’s snuggle and watch Netflix” kind of guy, maybe followed by a little playtime when the mood strikes. Temperament-wise, Tanner is a certified softie. You can see it in his eyes — the way he looks at you like he’s still a little surprised anyone could love him this much. He’s tender-hearted, gentle, and learning to trust at his own pace. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body; he just carries the weight of a past that didn’t give him the kindness he deserved. Every day he opens up a little more — wagging his tail a bit higher, snuggling a bit closer, and realizing that love doesn’t come with conditions. He’s not picky about his future home — fenced yard, apartment, or spaceship, as long as there’s love and patience involved, he’s good. Tanner doesn’t need a big, loud life. He just needs his people — the ones who will laugh at his quirks, celebrate his courage, and remind him every single day that he’s finally home.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it: turn Tanner into the best-trained, most ridiculously charming doodle in existence — the kind of dog who makes your grandma (yes, the same woman who said “you really don’t need more responsibility, dear”) suddenly start knitting him sweaters and referring to him as her “grandpup.” Tanner’s story starts with a bit of heartbreak and a whole lot of hope. He spent most of his puppyhood behind kennel bars, which means he’s still figuring out this whole “world without walls” thing. He’s sweet as can be, with a face that could sell greeting cards, but he’s also learning that love doesn’t have to come with locks and limits. Potty training? Still a work in progress. Kennels? Absolutely not. Tanner has filed an official complaint with HR about those, and he plans to cry loudly until the policy is changed. These days, Tanner sleeps peacefully in bed with his favorite teenage human, Sam — all night, no accidents, no drama.
So, if you’re ready to be adored by a fluffy little shadow who believes car rides and couch cuddles are the peak of existence, Tanner’s waiting. Just fill out an adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app so we can send it to his foster family — they’ll want to know who gets to steal their cuddle buddy. And yes, you’ll need to pick him up in Hutchinson, Kansas, but let’s be honest — for a face like his, it’s basically the best road trip souvenir you’ll ever come home with.
