CAT TEST: (Good with Cats) Poppy has met a cat at the shelter and did not seem to mind being around them.
KID TEST: (Good with Kids) Poppy has lived in a home with kids and did well! HOUSE BROKEN: (Potty Trained) Poppy seems to be potty trained ENERGY LEVEL: (Medium/High) This girl is the definition of a wiggly happy girl! Poppy loves meeting new people and is quick to give hugs and kisses. Poppy is big on toys and carries them around everywhere she goes. Poppy loves to go on long walks and explore the outdoors.
LEASH WALKING: (Good on Leash) Poppy seems to walk well on a leash. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit (Yes) Down (No) Stay (No) Shake (No) Drop (No)

Our shelter is open 7 days a week. (Excluding holidays).
Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 10am-2pm
We ask that you come visit any time between open and no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. This ensures that staff will have enough time to assist you in meeting one of our great furry friends!

More about this shelter
We are a Municipal Animal Shelter for the City of Lee's Summit. We house animals brought in by Lee's Summit Animal Control Officers and Blue Springs Animal Control Officers.
Animals are also brought to us by owners that can no longer keep the animal or by strays that were impounded for running loose.
When an animal comes in as a stray, it is held for 5 days to give the owner a chance to claim it. If the owner does not claim it, on the 6th day it is put up for adoption or foster. During this 5 day holding period, if a potential adopter would like to adopt the animal, they are welcome to sign up on the adoption list. The names on the adoption list are contacted on the 6th day if no owner has made claim.
If there are no names on the adoption list, then the animal will become first come, first served when available for adoption.
