Shelby is a resilient 10-year-old girl who’s been through a lot. After being left behind by her family of ten years, all alone in an empty apartment, she’s slowly learning that there are still kind people in the world. Once she trusts you, Shelby shows her gentle, loving side and becomes an easy, quiet companion to have around the home.
Her favorite things in life are simple: long naps, rolling around in her cozy bed, and soaking up the sunshine. She’s low-maintenance, independent, and happiest just having somewhere soft and safe to call her own.
A few notes about Shelby:
Age: 10 years young and heartworm negative
House manners: 100% housetrained — she’s had zero accidents in foster care! Shelby doesn’t need to be crated and can be left out without any issues; she’s not destructive at all.
Other pets: She hasn’t been around other dogs yet but isn’t reactive on leash; she also completely ignores the resident cat.
Health: Shelby has some arthritis in her back legs and benefits from joint supplements, but she still gets around well. She’ll need ongoing support for her achy joints. She also has some cloudiness in her eyes — she can still see, but she prefers that hands don’t come directly over her head.
Grooming: Shelby recently enjoyed a well-deserved spa day and did wonderfully for her bath! With a little TLC, her skin and coat are already improving, as she has some hair loss in a few spots.
Personality: Shelby can be protective of her dog bed, but she’s making progress as she builds trust. She may growl or snap when she feels scared or unsure, so she’ll need a patient adopter who understands her boundaries and can give her space when she needs it. After just a few days in foster care, she’s already showing less of this behavior and starting to relax.
Walks & play: Shelby doesn’t need long walks and isn’t into toys, but she loves lounging outside and taking in the fresh air. A fenced yard where she can safely sunbathe would be her dream.
Car rides: She rides nicely and allows you to help her into the car, though she’s still learning to feel comfortable getting out — she’ll need an adopter who can continue to work with her on this.
Shelby would thrive in a calm, kid-free home (no children under 15) with someone patient, gentle, and understanding — someone who will let her settle in at her own pace. Once she
