My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bandit here, checking in for pup duty! I’m just a guy with a big, wild dream of finding my fur-ever family. So, if you are also looking for your fur-ever best friend, then let me tell you a little about myself. I really, really love car/truck rides. There is nothing quite like a breeze blowing through your fur, riding around with your best friend, and perhaps picking up a pup cup! Why don't we head from our drive and do some hiking - my other favorite thing! From the foothills to the Bosque, and even the park!

But to be quite honest, as fun a they are, cats are not really my cup of tea. But I do love other pups! Team members have mentioned that I seem to know stay, heel and lay down. Pretty good, huh? So if all this sounds gravy, come meet me today! Ruff!

Adoptions are completed on a first come, first served basis. Please note there may be a wait to meet with a pet, dependent on advisor availability.

Please allow plenty of time to meet your perfect pet. Once you have selected a pet, the adoption process will take at least 30 minutes. We do not begin the adoption process after 5:30 pm.

Animal Humane New Mexico performs a background check on all adopters & does not adopt to anyone who has committed a violent crime. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption for any reason.

Please note, visitors must wear their mask indoors at all Animal Humane locations.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
