My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Martha May
Martha May is a gentle, affectionate senior whose world changed completely just a few weeks ago. She was surrendered to a high-kill shelter in Houston after her previous owner could no longer care for her. She arrived wearing her little coat and spent her first moments wandering the office, sniffing every corner and crying at the door, clearly confused and searching for the people she knew.
Thanks to a wonderful foster, she is now safe, settled, and beginning to show just how sweet and resilient she truly is.
Martha May is approximately 13 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. She loves being near her people and greets everyone as if they’re already a friend. If you lean down, she will gently nuzzle or kiss your face, and she relaxes easily when she knows you’re close by. She may be blind, but she adjusted to her foster home within just a few days and navigates her environment with confidence.
She is fully potty trained, sleeps soundly through the night, and has a calm, easygoing presence. She does wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and children. Martha May spends most of her time resting, following the sound of your voice, or settling in near your feet. She is the definition of a quiet, loyal companion.
Her vet noted a mild age-related heart murmur, and she’ll be starting Pimobendan to support her heart health. Her recent bloodwork looked good, and she is scheduled for a dental next week. Overall, she is in good condition for her age and is ready for a stable, loving home.
Martha May is a soft-hearted, appreciative little dog who asks for very little: companionship, a warm place to rest, and someone who will cherish her. She will make a wonderful match for someone looking for a calm, gentle senior to love.To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.

Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.

More about this rescue

Long Way Home was created to provide the last stop for animals displaced from their homes, deemed "unadoptable" by other rescues, or that need a level of care their previous owners or other shelters are unable or unwilling to provide.
