Adoption steps
- Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
- Visit the shelter and find a pet you’d love to adopt.
- Meet the Pet
- Meet the pet and spend time getting to know them.
- Interview
- Interview & meet and greet; all household dogs must meet new dogs. So make sure to bring your dog(s) in to meet their future companion!
- Home Check
- Home check – Renters need a signed DCAS Landlord Letter.
Owners are verified through the County Assessors' Files
- Sign Adoption Contract
- Sign the adoption contract and complete the required paperwork.
- Pay Fee
- Pay adoption fees, dog license, and any needed rabies or spay/neuter costs. Fee prices will vary with animals.
- Take the Pet Home
- Take your new pet home—if they’re ready, they go home that day!
