My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Age: 2 years
Weight: 32.7 kg

A little bit about Copper:
- kids unknown, 15+ recommended due to over-stimulation and nervousness
- cats / small animals unknown
- dogs unknown, potential for select other dog pending successful dog-to-dog

Bouncy, energetic, and smart Copper is a big boy looking for his new home! But not just any home; he`s looking for a calm, dog-savvy family that can go slow with him, help him learn better manners, and give him all the snuggles and playtime he deserves!

When you first meet Copper, he can be pretty nervous and has some barrier reactivity. However, as soon as you offer him a treat, he`ll recognize that you`re not actually all that scary. He even does the most adorable head tilts while you talk with him, and is very eager to show off his skills to earn more treats! But Copper doesn`t realize how big he is and if he gets too rambunctious, he can get jumpy and mouthy. That`s why he`d do best in a home with teens 15 years old and up that can recognize when Copper is getting too amped. Luckily he`s a very smart boy and eager to learn, especially for those ever-so-tasty treats! Like most pitties, Copper does have some allergies and will require a hypoallergenic diet and medication to keep skin issues at bay.

It`s unknown how Copper would do with other animals in the home, but the adoption counselors can help go over introductions when you come to meet him! If you have a soft spot for dogs with big noggins (and bigger hearts), then Copper just may be the dog for you!

More about this shelter

CONNECTING LIVES SINCE 1922

From our earliest beginning, Calgary Humane Society was more than a shelter. As Calgary’s first-established animal welfare organization, connecting the lives of animals and people while providing essential animal services to the community remains our central priority.

Today, Calgary Humane Society (CHS) shelters almost 5,000 homeless animals each year. In 1922 we set out to help as many animals as we can and we will continue to do so by fostering the values of respect, compassion, commitment, teamwork, integrity and innovation.

Our mission is to help as many animals as we can.

Our vision is using innovative strategies to lead, inspire, and educate in the humane treatment of companion animals, fostering an enlightened community that consistently demonstrates respect and compassion for all animals.

Our dream is a community where animals are valued, humanely treated, and live enriched lives.

Calgary Humane Society is committed to creating a better tomorrow through education and collaboration.
