My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Dodger is somewhat of a gangly teenager as he grows into his adult body. He should have a yard as he loves to be outside. He's super friendly to every person and dog that he meets. He loves to go on walks and hikes. He likes to go for car rides as they usually go somewhere fun. He does need a barrier to keep from joining you in the front seat.
Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.

Personality | He's a happy dog that loves to play and sleep. He loves to find a sunny spot in the house or the yard to nap in.

Story | Dodger was abandoned in a forest in Arkansas and nearly starved. He's back up to a normal weight now but is still very much food driven, which is great for training, but he is not food aggressive. He has no problems with another dog or human taking food from his bowl while eating. He does require a puzzle bowl due to how fast he eats. He's usually fed 1 of his 2 meals a day placed in a food trail in the yard. He enjoys following the food while he eats and using his nose to make sure he doesn't miss any kibble.

He has separation anxiety, likely from being abandoned. It's being worked on at the direction of a trainer but it will take time to overcome. It would be best for him to go to an experienced dog owner that is willing to work with him on it and continue his general training. He really needs a yard so apartment living is probably not a good idea.

Other Dogs | He loves all dogs and would love to have a dog that likes to wrestle and play chase around the yard.

Cats | He's fine with cats. He'll show interest but defer to how the cat wants to interact.

Children | He hasn't lived with kids but is very excited to meet them. He's rambunctious so he'd probably do best with kids that aren't too small.

Training | Dodger is in basic obedience and doing well. He's crate trained and is content to sleep all night in the crate.

Leash | He walks well on a leash. On hikes he likes to smell the trail as he goes but he doesn't stop much to smell too often so he's a good hiking partner and will get even better over time.

Activity Level | Moderate. Loves to play hard and then nap. Loves to go on hikes and walks. He'd be great at doing scent training/work.

Health Notes | His health is great. He's neutered and fully up to date on vaccinations.

Thank you! |

Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
