Joey is a seven-month-old shepherd mix with a goofy personality and the bounce of a baby kangaroo—which is exactly how he got his name! At around 55 lbs now, Joey is a happy, healthy, energetic boy who loves to play all day and explore new things.
Joey settled into his foster home quickly and now spends his days playing with his foster dog brother, exploring anything new, and hopping around with excitement whenever the mood strikes. Joey is fully potty trained, heads to the door when he needs to go out, and sleeps comfortably in his crate. With visitors or noises outside, he’s quick to let you know what’s going on, so he cannot live in a home with shared walls (no apartments/townhomes).
He’s great with other dogs and currently lives with two kids under ten, soaking up their attention and affection. Joey cannot live with cats and would be happiest in a feline-free home.
He has moderate energy and would love a daily walk, backyard time on a lead, and plenty of opportunities to romp with a dog friend or enjoy a sturdy chew toy. Once he’s had his fun, he crashes hard and loves a long, lazy nap. Joey is a healthy, joyful boy who’s still growing into his big ears and bigger personality, and he’s ready for a family who’ll enjoy his lovable kangaroo hops as much as he does.

The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.

We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
