My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apollo is not a dog.
Apollo is a full-body hug that learned to walk.
Yes, he’s crate trained.
Yes, he’s house trained.
Yes, he’s polite, non-destructive, and generally behaves like he wrote the manual on how to be a very good boy.
But let’s be honest. None of that is why you’ll fall for him.
Apollo’s real skill is closeness. He leans. He presses. He wedges himself into laps, drapes across hips, flips belly-up with total trust, or gently plants his paws on you like he’s asking permission to steal your heart. However he gets there, the goal is the same - contact. And once it happens, something shifts. Your shoulders drop. Your thoughts slow. The background noise in your head fades. Apollo has a gift for cuddling the static right out of a day.
He isn’t clingy, though. He’s secure. When you work, run errands, or need space, he happily settles into his crate or his favorite couch spot, likely dreaming up new, innovative ways to request belly rubs later.
Apollo is a healthy, neutered, 3-year-old hound mix, about 40 pounds of soft ears and sincerity. We know him well because he’s been adopted and returned twice. Not because he failed - but because each home taught us something important about what he needs to succeed.
We learned that very young children make him uneasy. Not aggressive. Not snappy. Just uncomfortable with the unpredictable movements and sudden volume. For Apollo, a home with no children under 5 is the right fit.
We also learned that while he’s dog-friendly in neutral spaces, Apollo wants his home life to be just that - his. He does best as an only pet, where the people, the couch, and the toys don’t have to be shared.
What you get in return is a dog who loves without limit. Sweet. Silly. Unapologetically affectionate.
If you love being loved, come meet Apollo.

Additional adoption info

If all goes well and you decide to pursue adoption, you will be asked to complete a pre-adopt. Once your family, including any dogs, have also met with the dog you wish to adopt, your application will be submitted to the Adoption Committee for review. We estimate the pre-adoption process can take up to 14 days or longer.

Please note: AAS is committed to finding the best fit for each of our dogs. For this reason, we will accept multiple applications for a dog. In the case of multiple applications, we will select the applicant that is the best fit based on the needs of the dog.

Adoption fee for puppy/adult dogs is $300.00.
Adoption fee for senior dogs is $150.00.

Dogs qualify as a senior based on their stature/weight and age. The scale below shows the age at which a dog attains “senior” designation:

0-20 lbs: 11 years
21-50: 10 years
51-90: 8 years
91+: 7 years
