Max and Little Bit were surrendered by their owners as the toddler in the home was too much for these boys. Max is said to be a Shihtzu and terrier mix and is roughly 7 yrs old. Max is potty trained, crate trained, walks well on a leash and enjoys chasing balls (or squirrels) in his yard. He sometimes likes to chase cars so he will need a fenced in yard or a tie out with supervision to keep him safe if you live near a busy road.
Max knows some basic commands like sit and stay and is used to being free fed. Young kids are too much for Max and he gets anxious and on edge around them. He would do best in an adult only home or with children 16 and over. Max loves attention, snuggles and being active with his family. Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.
We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.
Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds.We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.
Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.
We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.
We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.
Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.
Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.
In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
