My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet April – the Sweetest Little Softie Looking for Her Fresh Start

April is a gentle, affectionate girl with a heart that’s ready to trust again. She came to us through an animal welfare seizure with three other dogs, and while we don’t know much about her past, we do know she’s been trying her best to be brave. Her natural response to new things is to offer lots of “I’m friendly, I promise” signals—soft wiggles, lowered posture, and those sweet fawn-like gestures that show just how much she wants to connect.

Once she feels safe, April blossoms into a loving little shadow. She enjoys attention, seeks out soft hands for pets, and has a charming habit of gently placing her paws on you as if to say “stay with me a moment.” She walks nicely on leash, checks in often, and appreciates calm guidance. April is very gentle when taking treats (freeze-dried beef liver is the way to her heart), and while she doesn’t quite know her basic cues yet, she tries so hard and would flourish with patient, positive training.

April is more comfortable with people than with other dogs. She’s nervous around unfamiliar dogs and prefers plenty of space, but she came in with other dogs and may be able to live with a calm, respectful canine companion who lets her warm up slowly. Her cat and kid experience is unknown, but with careful introductions and dog-savvy family members, she could likely adjust well.

In her kennel she’s sweet, soft, and eager to be close. In a home, she’ll need adopters who can help her continue building confidence—keeping things gentle, predictable, and encouraging. She may need help with basics like housetraining, crate training, and learning household manners, but she’s a sensitive, willing student.

If you’re looking for a tenderhearted companion who just needs someone to show her the world can be kind, April might be your girl. She’s ready for a home where patience, reassurance, and love are offered freely—and where her quiet courage can shine.
