My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Millie!

This friendly gentle senior "sheepadoodle" (old english sheepdog/standard poodle is our best guess) came to us as a cruelty case painfully thin. Initially she had some GI issues and not much of an appetite but is doing much better with a special diet and we are working on getting some weight on her, though she still has some medical testing pending to rule out other underlying conditions. We are hoping to find her a calmer local foster home for now where she can continue to recover and be closely monitored with multiple feedings per day. She came in weighing only 33lbs but should be at least 50-60 most likely once she fills out. She was likely very matted and recently shaved down to the skin but will be a dog who needs regular grooming as her coat grows back. Please submit a foster or adoption application if you would like to open your home to this sweet soul either temporarily or permanently. We think she is about 8 years old, but still has great energy and loves attention.

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
