My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Yeonyu — A Gentle Jindo Mix Looking for His First Real Home

Name: Yeonyu

Age: 2 years (born May 15, 2023)

Sex: Neutered Male

Breed: Jindo Mix

Color: Beige

Weight: 11.8 kg

Height: 47 cm (shoulder height)

Rescue Story

Yeonyu was born inside a city shelter after his pregnant mom was admitted.

He grew up entirely within the shelter system and became the only puppy from his litter who was never adopted.

Just before facing euthanasia, he was rescued on July 27, 2025 — stepping outside the shelter for the very first time in his life.

He has now been in foster care for 4 months and learning what life in a home truly feels like.

‍‍‍ Socialization with People

Yeonyu is shy at first but gentle and accepting.

• He takes treats from strangers and allows petting even when nervous.

• He doesn’t yet initiate affection, but he has learned to greet people calmly on walks and receive gentle pets.

• At home, he may retreat to his bed when unsure, but once settled, he accepts touch naturally.

• He can be picked up with arms under the belly, but sudden grabs or tight hugs can startle him. Slow, predictable handling works best.

He is not fearful-aggressive — simply cautious and learning at his own pace.

Socialization with Other Dogs

• Friendly and polite when meeting new dogs.

• He greets other dogs but doesn’t really know how to play yet — typical for dogs raised in shelters.

• He is very tolerant: he avoids conflict, ignores barking directed at him, and remains calm even with big dogs.

• He often feels more comfortable when another dog is around.

With Cats

• During walks, he sees cats but maintains focus on his handler.

• If curious, he looks briefly but follows direction without issue.

Energy Level

• Moderate energy — enjoys outdoor time but rests quietly afterward.

• Indoors, he is very calm and quiet.

• Outside, his tail goes up and he becomes noticeably happier and more confident.

• In indoor public spaces (home, cafés, restaurants), he becomes tense again but handles it without reactivity.

Walks & Outdoor Behavior

Yeonyu is a wonderful walking companion.

• He has extensive walking experience and does not pull on leash.

• He prefers sniffing, stopping and going at his own rhythm.

• If the handler pauses, he stops and waits calmly.

• He frequently checks in by looking back at his person.

• He handles busy streets, crowds, tourist areas, and loud music without panic.

• When other dogs bark at him, he does not react and may greet them calmly or continue walking.

Other Behaviors

• No resource guarding toward people or dogs.

• Rarely barks.

• Climbs into the car independently but becomes nervous during the ride (trembling, drooling).

• No signs of separation anxiety so far, though recently he whined/barked lightly when his foster returned after a long outing — something to continue observing.

• Currently potties outdoors twice a day (morning and evening).

Yeonyu Is Looking For…

A patient, gentle family willing to guide a young dog who spent his entire early life in a shelter.

He thrives with routine, calm environments, and slow introductions.

With time, encouragement, and love, Yeonyu will blossom into a loyal, quietly affectionate companion.

More about this rescue

Adopt Korean Rescue is a volunteer-based federally registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless and unwanted dogs in South Korea find a new home in Canada.

We love Korean dogs. Many of them live in chains, give birth on the side of the road, or wander around with their pups. Some of them get caught and end up at dog meat farms or high-kill shelters in South Korea. They luckily meet us just before euthanasia or after many years of living in dog meat farms. We exist to hold their paws and help them find a forever home in Canada full of joy and happiness.
