Duchess came to us from Philly in mid-November after being timestamped at the shelter, thin and diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. As soon as we saw the email, we knew the shelter couldn’t be the final chapter to her story.
Her thyroid recheck last week showed improvement (just barely above normal) and the BIG win is she’s gained almost a full pound! Because she’s clinically doing well, her vet is opting to monitor and recheck bloodwork in 3 months rather than increase meds, to avoid stressing her kidneys. The bottom line is her vet is encouraged, and so are we. She’s stable, comfortable, and honestly thriving.
Now a happily chunky old lady, Duchess loves to eat, drink, make biscuits, purr up a storm, soak up affection, and loudly squawk to let you know she’s in charge. And make no mistake, she absolutely runs the ship. Wise, opinionated, and full of personality, she’s the kind of cat who fills a room just by existing (I mean look at that face!). She does not like other cats, so her dream home is quiet, pet-free, and full of patience and love for her golden years.
We are searching for a foster-to-adopt (or adoptive) home for Duchess. We will cover her next follow-up vet visit and bloodwork in 3 months. After that, her adopter would assume her care, with the understanding that kidney issues could arise as her thyroid continues to improve. Because of her age and medical needs, her adoption fee is reduced to $50.
Duchess is just shy of 16 years old, has improving hyperthyroidism, needs a c/d food diet, has a grade II–III heart murmur, and is, quite simply, the best girl ever. She was likely let down many times before in her life and we want those days to be completely over.

Each and every cat in our care has their own story and background. They are all fully vetted, fixed, vaccinated, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV negative (unless otherwise specified). Because of this, our adoption fee is $95 for one cat over 1-year-old or $155 for 2 and $110 for one cat under 1-year-old or $195 for 2.
Our approval process includes a vet reference (personal reference if you've not had a vet in the last 5 years), virtual home tour, and landlord approval should you be a renter.
The completion of an application does not guarantee approval for adoption.
