Their adoption process

Our adoption contract stipulates that the adopter has 30 days after the adoption to return the cat to us if anything were to occur, except for Out of State adoptions. The adopter will be required to collaborate with us to find transport back to Houston, Tx because Spring Branch Rescue Transport does not do pick-ups after they have left.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Adoption inquiry is required to submit an adoption application that will be reviewed by one of our foster coordinators to deny or approve
  2. Interview
    1. We require a virtual meeting to answer any questions you may have and talk more about our adoption process.
  3. Home Check
    1. During the virtual interview, there will be a required non-invasive home tour to make sure our cats are going to safe homes.
  4. Approve Application
    1. If our foster coordinator approves the interview process, we will send out the adoption contract immediately.
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. The adoption contract will be sent and will be required to be signed before the cat is transferred to their new owner.
  6. Pay Fee
    1. As part of the adoption contract, a fee will be prompted to pay.
  7. Take the Pet Home
    1. We use Spring Branch Rescue Transport to transport our adopted cats to specific Pick-Up locations set by Spring Branch Rescue. 2x a month

More about this rescue

A Little Story
Lear's Legacy Cat Rescue was founded in 2024 by University of Houston alumni to honor the memory of Lear, a beloved cat who lived on campus with his partner, Momma. Together, they became a source of comfort and joy for students, offering a peaceful place to unwind after exams or simply enjoy some quiet moments of connection. Lear’s gentle spirit and Momma’s loving presence helped form a unique community of students who cherished the opportunity to spend time with them.

When Lear passed away unexpectedly, his impact on those who knew him became the inspiration for Lear's Legacy.

Our mission is to carry on his love and compassion through dedicated cat rescue, rehabilitation, and colony management. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we work to reduce the homeless cat population in our community by offering care, resources, and education, while honoring the bond Lear and Momma shared with so many. Through our efforts, we aim to create a lasting legacy of kindness and care for all cats in need.
