Aubreen is a smart and gorgeous 2 year old beauty who we met at Chicago Animal Care and Control. She was so engaging, fun, and affectionate, so we had to make her a Heartland dog!
As you can see from her videos, Aubreen loves puzzles and toys, the outdoors, and snuggling (not necessarily in that order). She has the most endearing, goofy personality and the best smile, not to mention those epic ears!
When Aubreen first met a dog here, she seemed so confused, and scared - like she'd never met another dog before. We think she had not been socialized much - but she is so so so happy to have the chance to make friends now! She is doing great in playgroup, and has made several new friends, including Virgil - her very bestie. We are loving seeing her learn how to play and experience the joys of just "being a dog!"
We think Aubreen would be a great fit for an active family who loves training and enrichment activities. She is such a smart girl and absolutely adores learning, and when she's done with her puzzles and nose work, she would love nothing more than to snuggle up next to you on the couch. Aubreen is so smart and well-behaved too. She was definitely someone's pet and we hope she will be again very soon. She deserves to be adored.
Aubreen's adoption fee has been generously sponsored. She is spayed and up to date on core vaccines. Aubreen is Heartworm positive and is undergoing treatment with us. Heartland will cover the cost of treatment until she is Heartworm negative.
Heartworm is not contagious to other dogs or people; it is a mosquito-borne disease. It is both preventable and curable! Once cured, there are no long term health effects associated with having Heartworm.
Aubreen has finished her 28 day course of antibiotics, and next she will receive three injections to treat her Heartworm, all to take place at our shelter with our veterinarian.
Hw injection 1: 4/1/26
Hw injection 2 and 3: 4/28 and 4/29/26
That will complete the treatment, but she will need a quick retest at the adopter's vet 9 months post-treatment to make sure that she is Heartworm-free.
