My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Champ's Personality

Meet Champ...a playful, affectionate, talkative brown tabby with golden eyes! What’s not to fall in love with? Be prepared for a kitty that follows you around and plops down next to you. Not to worry, if you are wondering where he has wandered off to in your home, just call his name and he will be there in a hurry.

Champ loves being around people and being petted. He likes to show you his belly and thrives on interactive playtime - especially chasing string toys, carrying little balls around in his mouth, and batting toys around. He snuggles with you in bed at night so letting him into your bedroom at night is a must. He needs to be with his people.

What Type of Home Champ Needs

Champ needs a home where he gets plenty of people time. He's a young playful male who needs stimulation...interactive play, brushing, and ongoing interaction. He's social, playful and full of personality - an ideal companion for a home that wants an engaged, interactive cat. We haven't seen him interact with kids but would likely do fine with older kids (about 8 years or older). We also think he would thrive in a home with another young playful male cat. He had a few brief interactions with the older cats in his first foster home with the woman who rescued him from outdoors. Her cats are elderly and not receptive to other cats...but Champ was persistent in wanting to interact with them.

Where Champ Came From

Champ was a stray kitty found outdoors crying for food and affection. Although he ran right up to the woman who found him, he was also very scared and would hide after eating or hearing a loud noise. He clearly didn't belong outdoors. Now safely indoors, with all of his vetting taken care of, he's a happy boy loving the good indoor-only life.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Please read our cat adoption guidelines (at http://www.spcanova.org/). We put a lot of financial and emotional support into our cats and want them placed in homes where they will be members of the family for the rest of their lives. Indoor cats, with care, can live up to 20 years. Not everyone agrees with all of our guidelines. Please read our explanations and talk to our volunteers. If you disagree with us, we suggest you adopt a cat from a different source such as a local shelter. When you adopt a cat from us, you must sign a legal contract stating that you will comply with our guidelines. The adoption fee is $150 for one cat and $250 for two.

For those interested in cat adoptions, all potential adopters must read our adoption guidelines (available on our website at www.spcanova.org), then meet the cat in person either at an Adoption Fair or in their foster home. We take applications only after you've met the cat and we both feel it's a good match.

All adopters interested in adopting a dog must meet the dog in person, and submit an application. A housecheck is done, and references are checked. If approved, the dog will be placed in the home for a two-week trial period, to make sure that it is a good "fit" for both people and dog. If it is, the adoption is finalized and the adoption fee is paid. We do not adopt outside of the Washington DC metro area.

More about this rescue

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Virginia is a non-profit, all-volunteer, private organization established by local concerned citizens to rescue domestic animals from cruelty, neglect, and abandonment. We receive all our funding from membership dues, donations, and fundraising events. We are always striving to enlarge our animal rescue operations and expand our services to the community. Our voluntary Board of Directors, committee members, and volunteers are responsible for all SPCA activities. We do not have a shelter facility, and depend on foster parents to care for domestic animals until adoption.
